Dear Reader,
As we wrap up the year 2024, here’s something very special for you. I reached out to a dear friend in the publishing industry - Yola Singh -and requested her to share her list of favourite books which she would recommend to you - dear reader. And she was instantly so warm and welcoming - we got into a flurry of sweet ‘book’ pings over it.
One of the things that I respect about Yola is her love for books - over the years, we have corresponded over books and each time, I’ve learned something new from Yola.
Yola Singh is a marketing professional who started out as an editor who wanted to be an artist.
In her words, “Let’s see where life takes me.”
Here’s Yola’s list of favourite books for you:
1. Three Men in a Boat by Jerome K. Jerome
2. Blandings Case by PG Wodehouse
3. William the Conqueror by Georgette Heyer
4. Arthur and George by Julian Barnes
5. The Lambs of London by Peter Ackroyd
6. The Judas Pair by Jonathan Gash
7. Uncommon Type by Tom Hanks
8. Cat O'Nine Tales by Jeffrey Archer
9. The Gun Seller by Hugh Laurie

“This list of books is just some I have read, each one has had its own impact and has imprinted itself on me and my memory. Each transporting me to another world and experience. The books are mostly fiction as that is my reading preference, we already have enough reality in life…a little escape into fantasy sometimes is needed.
I have always been encouraged to read from childhood, my grandmother was instrumental in instilling the love of reading.
I spent hours on end until I finished a book, but now reading has taken a bit of a backseat which is something I want to change.
Books inspire a lifelong journey of learning, and learning is what I aspire to do throughout my life.”
This write-up is a By-Invite-Only Bespoke Post by Yola Singh for Svara’s Newsletter.
