Dear Reader,
Welcome to Delhi’s scorching summer; it’s that time of the year when you want to drink more than eat, and clothes dry out faster than you can blink. Today, as you are reading this, the temperature soared to a record high of 52.3 degrees Celsius, which is Delhi highest-ever temperature recorded till date!
Meanwhile, I have been reading a mixed variety of books which included Nita Prose’s bestselling novel, ‘The Maid’. I must confess - I really enjoyed the story despite many negative reviews I had skimmed through on Goodreads.
I love books that have a lot of adorable and delightful people in it, such as the protagonists in ‘The Marriage Bureau for Rich People’ and ‘The Awasthis of Aamnagari’. Kavery Nambisan’s novels are another personal favourite.

This is the first time I’ve read a book in which the protagonist is a maid. Her name is Molly Gray, and she loves being invisible and finds joy in cleaning. It is is her passion. It amazes me how she tries to help people though they are mean, rude and often insensitive.
“I am your maid. I know so much about you.
But when it comes down to it: what is it that you know about me.”
While Molly is great at what she does, her thought process is a little different and she takes everything quite literally, which is why her colleagues find her ‘weird’. She is the subject of taunts among her colleagues. But a saving grace is that her Gran is invisibly present to guide her with her profound wisdom way after she has passed away.
“Gran used to say, ‘Never mind what others think; it's what you think that matters.’
And I agree.
One must live by their own moral code, not follow like a sheep blindly.”
I found ‘The Maid’ a highly entertaining, light-as-a-feather kind of read with intriguing vibes. Mr. Preston and his daughter won my heart.
“The more you live, the more you learn. People are a mystery that can never be solved.
Life has a way of sorting itself out. Everything will be ok in the end.
If it’s not okay, it’s not the end.”

Bodkin on Netflix is a must-watch. It offer an intriguing window into the Irish way of life. Here are a few gems from Episode 3, Bodkin:
“Every death forces us to look in the mirror to think about our own demise. That’s why we need ritual, something which allows the living to move on, letting us bury the secrets of the dead forever.”
“Whisky is an Irishman’s Number 1 hobby.”
