“The Himalaya is an extremely complicated and expanded mountain system, and is considered a life support system for millions of people in the highlands and much more in the lowland areas of India. Being change-sensitive and susceptible to climate change, distinct conservation practices are needed to preserve its ecological equilibrium. The fragile ecosystem needs to be managed in a cohesive manner for the preservation of biodiversity, attaining SDGs, and for the livelihood security of the people. World Environment Day is more than just a ceremonial occasion; it is an awakening call for individuals to take continuous charge of protecting the environment. However, issues of pollution, migration, climate change, land degradation, improper urbanization, and dipping agricultural yield call for a pressing need to formulate a policy for sustainable development for the Himalayas.
